Our Story

Akshata's Lineage

My great-grandfather, Narayan Rao, established one of the first tailoring colleges in India. He served the British and frequently traveled to London, where he studied pattern making for men's jackets and formal wear. Upon returning to India, he used his skills to start a college to teach this art. Years later, my grandfather, Dayanand Rao, took over the institute his father had built. This college has since produced many well-known brand owners who remain prominent in India's retail landscape today. Many members of my family have inherited the creativity and style of our forefathers, myself included! I found a way to continue this legacy in my own unique manner.

'Akshu and Ameirah' and 'Cray Clothing Company' are a heartfelt dedication from me, Akshata, to my daughter, Ameirah, an extension of the everyday values I teach her as she grows in this world.

Both my brands are a journey of creating homegrown artisanal handcrafted products made using the most natural and sustainable methods. It is my tribute to traditional art forms, ensuring they adapt to ethical production practices and continue to thrive rather than fade away.

I work closely with women-led suppliers that create livelihoods for those who need it most. Being a woman in India, especially in rural areas, comes with immense challenges, and this is my way of supporting businesses that uplift and empower them.

Every collection at 'Akshu and Ameirah' and 'Cray Clothing Company' is thoughtfully curated, not just for quality and functionality, but also for the unique stories behind each product. From clothing, accessories, home décor, and pet products to wellness, I look forward to introducing new collections that celebrate craftsmanship, sustainability, and purpose!

Best always,

Akshata
